The artistic focus of the Lieberknecht/Zöllner duo is on spontaneous communication and synergy between dance and music. Both interact as performance partners out of the moment. Accordionist Eva Zöllner, who is at home in new music, has been working with contemporary dancer and choroegrapher Britta Lieberknecht since 2023. They present the result of their working method developed in the dance and music performance series Leise schäumt das Jetzt as a duo with performances at music and dance festivals and in the context of visual art and architecture.

With great sensitivity and a strong intuition for the physical, the sound world of Eva Zöllner’s expressive accordion playing meets the differentiated and imaginative body language of Britta Lieberknecht. The extraordinary energetic combination of these two performers thrills the audience. In their dialogue, the boundaries merge, music becomes movement and body movement becomes music, while the communication between the two, however subtle, contrasting or fierce it may be, always remains surprising and enriching. Britta Lieberknecht has been producing dance performances to new, old and improvised music since 1981.

The performance series Leise schäumt das Jetzt presents real-time compositions (also known as instant compositions) in various formations of musicians and dancers. They engage in an improvised dialogue between dance and music and develop a composition together with complete openness for each other in front of the eyes and ears of the audience. The performers draw on their many years of experience with this form of performance and their outstanding practice as soloists and ensemble members. The audience directly experiences the creation of sensitive and surprising works and the intuitive communication between the performers. High musicality and dance creativity characterise the dancers, who interact with the musicians like voices in a musical composition. For their part, the musicians move and thus contribute to the creation of poetic landscapes of sound and movement. Lighting designer Garlef Keßler improvises the stage lighting as an important part of the work.
The boundary between music and movement is dissolved with flowing synergy.

In the performances of the 2024 season (#1), the duo Lilo Stahl (dance) and Harald Kimmig (violin/movement) met the duo Eva Zöllner (accordion) and Britta Lieberknecht (dance). The guest duo from Freiburg have been practising and teaching Instant Composition for many years, while Zöllner and Lieberknecht came together in 2023. The ensemble wowed audiences and the press. Together with Kimmig, who danced with his instrument, they impressively merged the difference between music and dance ensemble.

Vibes celebrates interpersonal encounters in physical presence and plays with aspects of communication – with expressive dance and with spoken and unspoken words. The wavelength, the sensual information, the spark that crackles and the mood are the material from which the performance draws.

Five dancers engage in a dance dialogue – based on intuitive sensory information. Or also from what is spoken internally. They dance the unspoken words to communicate with each other and with the audience. Their dialogues involve the audience in the allure of the physical presence, in the energy and vibration of the moment. They also dance and speak impromptu, invented narratives in which spoken words and movements enter into a situation-comic, creative interplay.

Movements become words and words become movement. The freedom of interpretation and the pitfalls of interpersonal communication lead to an exciting exchange. This heightened communication with all the senses is the great attraction of this performance. With a free-flowing, authentic dance vocabulary and a high level of sensitivity, the dancers create a vibrant performance.
