„I see dance under visual arts aspects and related to a situation rather than under theatrical aspects. Developing a dancepiece the visual work comes from the same source like the dance following the same logic.
Working visually I derive from aspects of perception and dynamics, if you want from physical aspects. Physicality means a direct form of intelligence to me. The perception of the body is always the beginning of a work no matter if I deal with other bodies in space or with my own. In this frame I develop my visual work independently from performances. It gives me an enormous freedom. When creating a niew dancepiece I see myself working in the context of contemporary visual arts history.“
Already in her education Britta Lieberknecht related dance to visual elements and developed this concept further during her professional live. Britta Lieberknecht created drawings/ paintings, sculptures, films, concepts for spaces and installations related to her danceperformances. Especially her drawings, sculptures and films have been shown also separately from the performances. The museum Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten Marl presented the performance KANGA- FUCKIN- ROO in the programme „Grenzgänge 2004“ and showed the installation which was the result of the performance process in an exhibition afterwards.
Since 2001 her visual artwork is also independent from her stagework.
